Borodin's main composition, the opera Prince Igor, was unfinished at the time of the composer's death (February 27, 1887). These brilliant barbarian dances take place during the second act of the opera which was revised and completed by Rimsky-Korsakoff, who also did the orchestration, and Glazounov. The first performance took place in St. Petersburg, March 11, 1879.
