"Agnus Dei" is an aria for contralto and orchestra, taken from the Mass in B minor, written between 1724 and 1746, by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).

The air, in the key of G minor, proceeds at a slow pace, giving intensity and significance to all the words of the text.

The instrumentation is composed only of the basso continuo, in support of the rhythmic scan and harmony, and violins, which first expose the theme and then act as a counter-song to the contralto.

The writing exposes the melodic material with extreme naturalness and purity.

The composer describes the Christian symbols with a few elements, such as in this case the lamb that take away the sins of the world, and it is necessary for the executors to maintain the clarity of the idea composition.

It is important, in the musical performance, to pay attention to the words of the text, in order to respect the phrasing and the literal meaning given to each individual figuration.
