As a teacher, it often happens to me to say to my students “never consider music as a set of random notes, music always wants to express something, represent something”; often it means describing a feeling, a state of mind, other times a thought, an imaginary or real place, a situation.

It will certainly not have been a coincidence that Antonín Dvořák wrote his Symphony No. 9 Op. 45 “From the new world” just when he was director of the New York National Conservatory of Music.

Although, and it is clearly my impression, the 2nd Movement I deal with here gives the impression of widening the simple and earthly national borders; seasoned with typically American harmonic elements, the impression is to refer to the birth of a new life, a new dawn, in fact, a new world, and the choice of the cover of this work is not causal.
