The Swan Song (Schwanengesang) D. 957 is a cycle of fourteen lieder composed by Franz Schubert in 1828, the year of his death. The fourth canto of the collection “Serenata” (Ständchen) is the song that a lover addresses to her beloved, it is set in the woods and alternates moments of restlessness with nostalgic moments that aspire to a longed-for forgiveness.
In the free transcription for clarinet ensemble, the sweet and melancholy melody crosses the various timbres of the choir of instruments giving new colors and shades to this wonderful lied.
