"Si dolce è’ l tormento" is a composition by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) based on a text by Carlo Milanuzzi (1590-1647).
Published in 1624 and composed of 4 stanzas (which you will find at the end of the arrangement), the central theme is the "torment" of a broken heart which leads it to be suspended between hope and pain.
The type of writing of the passage takes up the "Recitar Cantando" style, which, between the 16th and 17th centuries was the matrix of the vocal performance of the nascent Melodrama.
In the execution of this musical form we must give worthy relevance: to the Text, the Melody and the Accompaniment.
The Variations of the Melody must be consistent with the basic musical idea and respectful of the internal melodic phrasing.
The search for the Stamp and Joints proves to be a relevant study methodology, useful for expanding the range of musical elements in the possession of the performer.
