The name of "clarinet" is a diminutive of clarinet: we often speak of these two instruments as if they were the same, but in reality they have nothing in common, since the clarinet is a metal instrument (used from around 1700) and it takes this name from the higher register of the trumpet, but for its sweet sound it almost seems to be made of wood. Precisely for this reason the clarinet got its name from the clarinet.
