The wind quintet is made up of the orchestra's four main wind instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon; and a brass instrument, the horn.
Although most of the attention given to instrumental chamber music is directed at the string quartet, the wind quintet has both a history and a repertoire of music of great interest, even in Italy.
In this short publication, the birth and historical development of this group is reconstructed and around 250 original compositions are catalogued, written from the beginning of the nineteenth century to today.
